  First Regional Growth Fund recipients announced

The government has announced the first developments to receive a share of the new Regional Growth Fund.  The £1.4 billion fund, announced in 2010, aims to create and safeguard jobs and stimulate private sector growth.

The first round of funding – amounting to around £450 billion – will be divided between fifty projects, mainly in northern England and the midlands.

Notable recipients include:

  • A new link road south of Doncaster;
  • Construction of a resin manufacturing plant in Teesside;
  • Development of new factory and office facilities in Rochdale; and
  • Expansion of a food factory in Wakefield.

Round 2 of the Regional Growth Fund opened for applications on 11 April.  Applications are invited from private bodies and public-private partnerships.  Bids must be able to demonstrate that the funding will create long-term growth.  It will not support speculative developments.
