Firms shortlisted for Battle of Bannockburn tender

Five firms have been shortlisted as part of the tendering process for the National Trusts for Scotland's Battle of Bannockburn project.

The contract is to build a state-of-the-art visitor centre to mark the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn, which saw the Scots battling the English for independence.

In order to be ready for the anniversary ceremonies in 2014, work will start in the autumn of this year with the demolition of the existing visitor centre.

Construction Enquirer says that five firms have been shortlisted for the project, which is being funded by a £5 million contribution from the Scottish Government and a further £3.9 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

They are CBC (Glasgow) Limited, John Graham (Dromore) Limited, Mansell Construction Services, Sir Robert McAlpine and Miller Construction UK.

Kate Mavor, chief executive of the National Trust for Scotland, said: "With the forward programme of works now confirmed, we can move forward with the transformation of the Battlefield to make it worthy of the great weight of history that surrounds it."
