  Environment Agency seeking new contractors

The Environment Agency is looking for contractors to work on its next generation of projects starting in 2013.

There is a grand total of £1 billion worth of contracts up for grabs as part of the Water and Environment Management Framework, which is being divided into four lots.

The bulk of the money (£750 million) will be shared between up to six construction firms to carry out "asset delivery" work on coastal defences and other major projects.

There will also be a lot for engineering consultancies to compete for £180 million in new contracts and another lot worth £48 million for companies offering mapping, modelling and data services to submit tenders for.

The Environment Agency says that the framework will "cover the investigation, appraisal, design and delivery of Environment Agency projects" and "be a key part in implementing the recommendations of the Procurement Strategy for Sustainable Engineering for a better Environment 2011 to 2020."
