The engineers working on Network Rail's new 38,000 m3 office in Milton Keynes have been racing against the clock in order to meet a "non-negotiable" June deadline.
With the lease on the firm's largest premises in Euston due to run out next month, the new building has to be ready to accommodate 3,000 staff members who are transferring to Milton Keynes, Construction Index reports.
One of the main challenges of the 95-week build was Network Rail's desire to have a naturally-ventilated premises in order to achieve a BREEAM excellent rating.
Working to achieve this goal have been main contractor BAM, quantity surveyor Sense, landscape architect Capita Lovejoy, building services engineer Scott Wilson, civil and structural engineer Waterman, project manager Mace, and architect GMW.
Describing how everyone had to work together in order to finish on time, project manager Adam Harding told Construction Index: "Everything has an effect on everything else.
"It's particularly important with offsite construction. You have to have input from trades."
