The Emirates Air Line in London is currently undergoing vigorous testing following the completion of its towers and cabling.
Flying high above the River Thames, the cable car is designed to carry up to 2,500 people per hour in each direction between the Greenwich Peninsula, where the O2 Arena is located, and Royal Victoria Docks, home of the ExCeL centre.
Travelling across 1.1km of cable at a maximum height of 90m, the 34 gondolas need to be load-tested to ensure passengers can travel safely across the river once the Air Line opens.
Commenting on the engineering achievement accomplished on the build, the Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "The speed with which we have gone from designs to safety testing of the Emirates Air Line is a clear demonstration of London's ability to deliver world class projects and attract major investment."
It is thought that the Air Line will probably not be open in time for the Olympics this summer, as the deadline is too tight for contractors Mace.
