Eight developers have been shortlisted for the 35-acre regeneration of the Royal Albert Dock site in east London.
The list includes some of the biggest UK property developers as well as major international investors - highlighting the strong interest in the project.
The London Development Agency, in partnership with Newham Council, is asking firms to draw up proposals for the site in March before a final shortlist of developers is selected. A preferred developer will then be chosen by September 2012.
Lurene Joseph, London Development Agency's chief executive, likened the interest in the Royal Albert Dock project to the one in Silvertown Quays.
She said: "This high level of market interest is part of the growing international confidence in the future of the Royal Docks as a whole.
"We now look forward to seeing the short-listed developers come up with proposals to turn the site into a world class centre - a place with thriving businesses and high quality jobs."
The eight developers shortlisted for the projects are: Canary Wharf Ltd, Dauphin Holdings Group, Micro World Developments, Muse Developments, St Modwen Properties, Salmon Harvester Properties, Sinowest Construction Group and Wrenbridge Land.
