Railway construction firm Crossrail has opened a new academy designed to give contractors hands-on experience of using Building Information Modelling (BIM) systems.
Crossrail are among the leading advocates of the software technology, with the system currently being used to design and build a number of railway systems.
But with the firm utilising the advanced construction tool on a Europe-wide scale, those within the complex supply chain therefore require hands on experience of the programme.
The BIM Academy has been set up to do this, with the special project providing Crossrail constractors with insight and experience of the latest software, best practices and the processes used at the firm.
This new tool will be accessible via a simulated environment or 3D digital model where they will learn detailed technical knowledge about project processes on a first-hand basis.
Andrew Wolstenholme, Crossrail’s chief executive, said: "The training received at the Academy will also help contractors use the knowledge and skill gained here on other major projects such as HS2."
