Crest Nicholson to build 248 new homes in Essex

Construction firm Crest Nicholson has been named the preferred bidder to build a new housing development on an old hospital site in Essex.

The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has announced that Crest will deliver 248 new homes on the former Severalls Hospital site in North Colchester.

A quarter of the new homes, which will be a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments and larger family homes, will be affordable for those on the housing needs list.

James Moody, managing director for Crest Nicholson Eastern, said: "We are very pleased to be given the go ahead for this fantastic project which embodies the design, sustainability and partnership ethos of the business.

"We are looking forward to working with the HCA to deliver high quality homes in such a great location as Colchester."

The development is part of a wider project which will potentially include the construction of up to 1,500 new homes.
