Costain secures £400m London Bridge station contract

Engineering group Costain is set to redevelop London Bridge station after securing a £400 million contract from Network Rail.

Over the course of the five-year deal, the firm will create a new street level concourse with entrances on Tooley Street and St Thomas Street to increase passenger capacity from 50 million to around 75 million.

Access to the station will also be improved as entrance and exit points at London Bridge are also set to be redeveloped.

Andrew Wyllie, chief executive of Costain, claimed that the project reinforces the firm's position as one of the UK's leading engineering solutions providers.

He said: "Our focus is to design and deliver a world-class London Bridge Station which enhances the capital's infrastructure and improves the journeys of the hundreds of thousands of passengers who pass through the station every day."

Construction is due to commence in 2013 and is forecast to be completed in 2018.
