  Contracts boost from Olympics work

Companies involved in building the infrastructure for the forthcoming London Olympic Games have been securing future contracts on the basis of this work.

Several contractors involved in the Games have been offered similar kinds of work across the world, the Financial Times reports.

The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), which is responsible for overseeing the development of the Games' infrastructure, said that event organisers are looking to utilise the experience that contractors have gained in delivering London 2012.

John Armitt, the ODA's chairman, told the paper that organisers of future sporting events were turning to companies "who have been organising, managing and designing what we have completed".

The FT reports that examples of companies riding high on the success of the London build include UK group Atkins, which has been chosen to oversee construction and engineering for the 2022 football World Cup in Qatar.

Populous, which has offices in London and designed the Stratford Olympic stadium, will now be turning its hand to the Sochi Winter Olympics main stadium and the Sports City stadium in Qatar.
