The Midlands and Yorkshire are set for an economic boost after it was announced that contractors have been selected to build a total of 1,100 homes in the two regions.
On behalf of housing services provider Sanctuary, Seddon Construction is to build 700 homes in the Midlands, while Keepmoat will undertake a 400-home building project in Yorkshire and Humberside.
This work forms part of Sanctuary's vision to deliver more than 3,600 homes across England at a cost of £500 million, backed by a £90 million grant from the Homes and Communities Agency through its Affordable Homes Programme (AHP).
Peter Martin, Sanctuary's group director of development, said the project would be hugely beneficial to the local communities they will affect.
"These important appointments will bring a vital boost to local economies," he said.
"Creating employment opportunities is a key priority for Sanctuary, which is why we have selected partners that share our aims."
Between 2011 and 2015, the AHP will invest £4.5 billion in affordable housing in England.
