Contractor required for £22m hospital project

A contractor is required to build a critical care unit theatre block at Kings College Hospital in London.

The work will involve the creation of an "independent steel frame column/truss superstructure" at the site in Denmark Hill and is valued at between £20 million and £22 million, depending on the full scope of the work.

As well as the proposed renovations, the hospital trust is also considering developing other facilities, including a helicopter landing pad on top of an adjacent building on the site.

Firms hoping to secure the work will need to submit the initial documents by 14:00 on February 22nd and economy is the main awarding criteria.

The procurement will be based on a two-step tendering process that will progress quickly as work is expected to start in August, with work completed by September 2014.

Kings College Hospital specialises in research into liver disease and transplantation, neurosciences, fetal medicine, cardiac and blood cell cancer, and serves the London borough of Lambeth.
