The Silverstone University Technical College (UTC) project has progressed to the next stage, with news that a preferred bidder has been selected.
Situated opposite the National Pit Straight at the northern edge of the Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire, where the British Grand Prix is held, the UTC will offer a technical curriculum for up to 576 14 to 19-year-olds in high performance engineering and technical events management.
Tresham College of Further and Higher Education, the University of Northampton and Silverstone Circuits are collaborating on the UTC with support from Northamptonshire County Council.
UK-based construction group Interserve has been awarded the £10 million contract to build the cutting-edge facility and Gordon Kew, director of UK Regional Building at Interserve, is very positive about the build.
"Through this project we will strengthen our existing links with the area, and create real opportunities for the local supply chain to benefit from the project," he said.
