Contactors in hunt for new flyover project

Three contractors are reported to be in the running to build a new flyover in west London as part of the Crossrail project.

Construction News has reported that Carillion, Morgan Sindall and Skanska have been shortlisted to build a flyover near the existing Stockley Flyover in Hillingdon.

The flyover, which was designed by Jacobs Engineering, will provide a separate route for trains crossing the Great Western main line and allow Crossrail services to reach Heathrow.

Last week, Network Rail agreed a £2.3 billion deal with Crossrail to carry out infrastructure improvements and surface works at 27 surface stations.

A Network Rail spokesman said: "There will be a mixture of contracts, some of them based on geography and others on technical discipline.

"The decision will be based on the most effective means of delivering the work in question and the overall project."

The contract for the flyover is expected to be awarded by October.
