Construction industry should learn lessons of Olympic site

The construction industry has been urged to follow the health and safety practices employed at the Olympic site.

A new study from the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) has revealed that only 114 injuries and eight dangerous occurrences were reported during 66 millions hours of work at the Olympic site.

The body claims that the figures highlight how building projects can be completed on time and on budget without having to compromise on safety.

Stephen Williams, HSE's director for London 2012, claimed that strong leadership and worker involvement are key aspects in creating a safer working environment.

"No matter what size your organisation, no matter what size your project, small changes in the way you operate can have a huge impact on the health and safety of your workers.

"I want the rest of the construction industry to follow London's lead."

The full HSE report, entitled Leadership and worker involvement on the Olympic Park, can be accessed via the organisation's official website.
