The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has announced that Howard Shiplee has joined its board.
An executive director for Laing O'Rourke since 2011, Mr Shiplee was formerly the director of construction for the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) - a project that had an exemplary health and safety record.
The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health has paid tribute to the construction of the Olympic Park - during which there were no fatalities.
Accidents were reduced by as much as two-thirds on the industry average, while as much as £7 million was saved as a result of the occupational hygiene programme in place for the project.
Commenting on his approach to health and safety, Mr Shiplee said: "I firmly believe that high standards of health and safety are not only statutory requirements and morally right, but are also good for business … as conclusively demonstrated by the London 2012 construction programme."
