Chelsea FC and property development partner Almacantar have submitted a bid to buy the iconic Battersea Power Station site in London in order to build a 60,000-seater stadium.
However, they have no plans to knock the structure down and instead want to restore the four iconic white chimney towers and the Grade II-listed west turbine hall to provide "a unique architectural backdrop to a world-class stadium".
The stadium design includes a 15,000 all-seater one-tier stand behind the south goal - likely to be the biggest of its kind - making up one of four stands in a rectangular layout.
Wider plans for the 39-acre site include street-level retail shops, affordable housing and offices.
Despite a bid being made, the club was keen to stress no decisions regarding the future had been made.
"We must also stress that making an offer for the Battersea Power Station site does not mean the club has made a definitive decision to leave Stamford Bridge," it said.
It had previously been suggested by EC Harris that knocking down the power station would be worth an extra £470 million to developers, as it would allow 1,200 apartments to be built in its place.
