The House of Commons Business, Innovation and Skills Committee has accepted ACE's recommendation that Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) should collaborate to share knowledge and experience.
In its submission to the Committee, ACE noted that fostering an attitude of collaboration between LEPs will be important in achieving cohesion. Simple ways of doing this, suggested ACE, would be to establish a national LEP forum or to establish a resource similar to the existing Knowledge Transfer Networks.
The Committee agreed, stating that "we recommend that the Government consider making LEP recognition conditional on membership of a knowledge sharing network so that weaker LEPs have access to the experience and know-how of others, or even a duty to cooperate similar to that envisaged for planning bodies."
ACE believes that striking a balance between local needs and strategic national needs is essential to ensure that the new arrangements work effectively. Effective collaboration and support will be important in helping the new LEPs to establish themselves.
