Bidders shortlisted for £950 million defence contract

Four bidders are to be shortlisted for the National Training Estate Prime contract worth up to £950 million, the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) has announced today (January 31st).

Its shortlisted bidders are Babcock Support Services, Kellogg Brown & Root and Balfour Beatty Workplace, Landmarc Support Services, and Serco, BAE Systems Surface Ships and Kier Regional.

The contract covers 200,000 hectares of land and the chosen contractor will be responsible for providing a diverse range of services ranging from managing air weapons ranges to providing laundry services or clearing snow and ice.

The Defence Training Estate (DTE) says that developing a good partnership with the chosen contractor will be important to the success of the project.

Colonel Christopher Sloane, commander of the DTE, said: "A sound partnership with industry will be the key to supporting the training requirements of Defence.

"It is vital that we identify the best possible private sector partner for this significant commercial arrangement."
