Network Rail has awarded a £60 million contract to Skanska to deliver the Bermondsey Dive-under project.
The project, which forms part of the Thameslink Development Programme in London, will see Skanska design and build the railway underpass and reuse existing buildings to reduce waste and disruption.
A total of 11 new inter connected structures will be built along the line of existing operational rail viaducts, while Skanska will also strengthen a number of bridges and arches along the route.
Greg Craig, managing director of Skanska's civil engineering operating unit, claimed that the project will further the firm's commitment to the rail sector.
He told the Construction Enquirer: "We have enjoyed an excellent working relationship with Network Rail for a number of years, most recently at Borough Viaduct, and we look forward to developing this collaborative partnership further at the Bermondsey Dive-under project."
Construction is set to start in 2014, with full completion of the project scheduled for spring 2017.
