ACE welcomes extra Scottish capital funding

Issued: 17 November 2010

The Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) today welcomed the announcement that Scotland is to divert extra money into its capital budget to boost the construction industry.

The plans set out in the Scottish Budget give tens of millions of pounds of extra funding for capital projects, such as roads, hospitals and other infrastructure. The funds are seen as crucial to boosting the construction industry, which the government has acknowledged as a critical driver to economic growth.

Nelson Ogunshakin OBE, ACE chief executive, said: “ACE is delighted that the Scottish Government has recognised the importance of the construction industry as a driver for economic growth in Scotland, through the granting of extra funding into the capital budget.

“This extra funding will support the construction industry through an extremely difficult time and enable it to play a central role in delivering jobs and growth for Scotland.”

Funding has been confirmed for projects including the replacement Forth Crossing, the South Glasgow Hospital and Scotland’s Schools for the Future programme.  There will also be a £2.5 billion programme of health, education and transport investment, to be delivered through the Non-Profit Distributing model.

Nelson Ogunshakin said: “ACE Scotland will continue to work with the Scottish Government to ensure appropriate priorities are given to construction projects as a platform for economic regeneration across Scotland.”
