  ACE supports RedR’s Haiti appeal

Issued: 14 January 2010

The Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) has asked its members to support RedR’s Haiti appeal by donating time or money. Haiti has been hit by its most powerful earthquake in two centuries.  It struck close to the densely populated capital, Port-au-Prince, bringing down thousands of buildings.  Thousands of people are dead or missing.  Many more are without shelter.  The country is facing a long hard struggle to clear the wreckage and rebuild homes and services.  That struggle will be all the harder in what is the poorest nation anywhere in the Americas.

RedR urgently needs £20,000 to pay for a team to fly out and undertake a full needs assessment of the training requirements of aid agencies responding to the crisis.  It will then support the agencies over the coming months.  RedR members are on standby for potential deployment into the affected areas. Several members are already on their way as part of agency responses.

Nelson Ogunshakin, ACE chief executive, said: “ACE is a proud supporter of RedR and its efforts around the world to train aid agency workers in the skills they need.  Our members recognise the importance of expertise in a crisis. They have generously supported this work in the past and we know they will do so again.”
