ACE is pleased to announce the winners of its Engineering Excellence Awards, recognising the very best that UK based consultancy and engineering firms have to offer.
The awards event on the evening of 23 May was hosted by ITV News anchor Mary Nightingale at the Marriott Grosvenor Square Hotel, and brought together firms both large and small from across the industry and beyond.
ACE chief executive, Nelson Ogunshakin OBE, said: “This year’s awards were highly competitive with a record number of entries and projects from around the world undertaken by engineers in this country. It is a wonderful testament to the remarkable vision and expertise of our world-leading sector.”
The awards named the Engineering Ambassador of the Year. This year the prestigious title went to Michelle McDowell MBE. Michelle is a figurehead for engineering. She is well known and respected throughout the industry and has influenced many beyond the confines of construction.
Nelson Ogunshakin OBE said: “Michelle works hard as a true ambassador for our industry and is a fantastic role for young women in the industry. She engages across the sector and beyond and represents the very best of the profession.”
The evening also saw a special CEO / Chairman award given to MWH director of human resources Jeannie Edwards.
Jeannie Edwards became the first lady to serve on the board of ACE at the start of her first term, more than ten years ago and she also holds the honour of being the first non-engineer to serve on the board.
Nelson Ogunshakin said: “Jeannie is a passionate advocate for engineering, skills and people development, and has led ACE’s work on human resources and health & safety. We have always found it an honour and a delight to work with her.“

Launched in 2008, ACE’s annual Engineering Excellence Awards showcase the finest achievements of consultancy and engineering firms and the innovation that makes the industry crucial to local, national and global economies.
A distinguished panel of judges come together to assess individual entries and judge against high expectations for original and unique design work, a future value beyond what is normal, and social, economic and environmental sustainability, and successful fulfilment of the client’s needs.
The expert judges are bought together from the fields of engineering, architecture, media and academia, as well as from within government. They then evaluate aspects of the projects holistically, but also the less tangible wow factor that a project may have with local communities and the wider public.
