The Association of Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) congratulates Michelle McDowell on being awarded an MBE in this year's Queen’s Birthday Honours list for services to the construction industry.
Michelle McDowell is ACE chair and chair of BDP's civil and structural engineering group. At the age of 47, she has already made a major contribution to the UK civil engineering industry. Michelle has broken the 'glass ceiling' as a trailblazer for women in the construction sector. She has also worked tirelessly to encourage young people to become engineers by stressing the wealth of opportunities the profession can offer as a career.
Nelson Ogunshakin, ACE, chief executive, said: "On behalf of the ACE board, I wish to congratulate Michelle. It is a great achievement to be awarded such an honour. Michelle has made a major contribution to the consultancy and engineering sector and I know will continue to do so in the future. The honour recognises her passionate commitment to her profession and the work she has done to champion it."
Michelle is the first female chair of ACE, an organisation that was founded in 1913. She has served as a vice-president of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and is a member of the Company Board and Executive Board of BDP.
