Profiling the risk – determining what is really important and what is not in project management and consulting
Judith Hackitt CBE
Chair, Health and Safety Executive
Anyone working in the world of construction knows that the success of
every project will be measured in part by health and safety performance
during construction and operation as well as whether the project was
built on time and on cost.
No project should ever be a memorial to those who build or operate it.
In recent years, the construction industry has
undergone a cultural transformation. Health and safety is now an
integral part of project management – some would even argue that we have
gone “over the top”. But the performance improvement achieved
particularly on major construction projects is remarkable.
However, there are cautionary tales from other
industry sectors which suggest that complacency can lead to performance
deterioration.
Judith Hackitt, CBE, Chair of the Health and
Safety Executive, will explore what is required to ensure sustained good
performance without complacency or falling into the traps of over
bureaucracy and a “tick-box mentality”.
HSE’s strategy for Health and Safety in Great Britain in the 21st
Century will provide the backdrop for deciding what has been achieved,
what challenges remain to be tackled and who needs to play what role in
“preventing death, injury and ill health to those at work and those
affected by work activities”.
The
recent announcement by the Prime Minister that the burden of health and
safety on industry is to be reviewed makes the content of this year’s
Lecture all the more relevant and challenging. If you would wish to join us, please contact Mai Cheung, ACE events programme manager on mcheung@acenet.co.uk or you can register by clicking the link "Add to basket" below to complete your details online.
