ACE and CECA to ensure choice remains available for Civil Engineering Conditions of Contract

Issued: 24 September 2010

The Association for Consultancy and Engineering and the Civil Engineering Contractors Association have jointly agreed to maintain ICE Conditions of Contract as contracts of choice, both organisations confirmed today.

The ICE withdrew from the Conditions of Contract in July 2010, to endorse NEC 3. Through the long established Conditions of Contract Standing Joint Committee (CCSJC) ACE, CECA and ICE will continue to maintain the contracts until July 2011. During this time the family of contracts will be updated to include compliance with the "Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Act 2009" and ACE and CECA work to ensure balanced client representation within the CCSJC after ICE withdraws.

Nelson Ogunshakin, ACE chief executive, said: “From July 2011, ACE and CECA will maintain the integrity of the ICE Conditions of Contract and continue to provide choice for the civil engineering industry.  It is imperative that the best interests of the industry are served so that they can maximise their commercial potential and minimise cost in the contractual and procurement process.”

Rosemary Beales, CECA National Director, said: “Significant use is still made of the ICE Conditions for infrastructure and associated work. Together with ACE we are committed to ensuring continued choice and welcome the opportunity to ensure that this remains and to provide contracts relevant to the evolving needs of clients and others within the industry.”
