Aberdeen Airport yesterday (April 2nd) unveiled a 30-year development plan to accommodate growing passenger numbers.
It was the UK's fastest growing airport last year and passenger numbers are expected to reach four million by 2020 and five million by 2040, up from 3.1 million in 2011.
Some £100 million has been earmarked for investment in new infrastructure up to 2030, including major terminal refurbishment works and runway expansion.
It is estimated that around 1,100 jobs could be created as a result of future development.
Derek Provan, managing director of Aberdeen Airport, said that although the airport is growing, the company is being realistic following the economic downturn.
"It is vital therefore that we put in place a development framework that allows Aberdeen Airport to deliver an enhanced customer experience, improve its international connectivity, and compete effectively in a fast changing market," he added.
The public consultation on the proposals closes on the 30th June 2012.
