  Transport Minister to address FIDIC 2009 conference

Chris Mole MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State will give a keynote speech to the FIDIC International Conference, ‘Sustainable Solutions to Global Challenges’, on Monday 14 September at 11am at the QEII Centre in Westminster, London.

The conference will be the flagship annual gathering of international engineers and consultants.  These professionals play a critical role in tackling climate change by refurbishing and delivering the infrastructure and buildings required to move to a low carbon industry and economy.

Nelson Ogunshakin, ACE Chief Executive, said: “The FIDIC conference ‘Sustainable Solutions to Global Challenges’ will focus on the global effort to adapt to and mitigate climate change.  Engineers need to take the lead in the fight against climate change, and FIDIC 2009 is an unrivalled opportunity to set the global agenda.”

Chris Mole MP is the Minister responsible for Rail and the Strategic Road Network at the Department for Transport.  He will outline the UK Department’s role in driving the move to a low carbon future, as well as other long-term investment and infrastructure issues.

Nelson Ogunshakin added: “ACE is delighted that the Minister has taken this opportunity to address the global consulting and engineering community.  We look forward to hearing the Government’s views on this challenging topic.”

Chris Mole

Chris Mole MP was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport on 9 June 2009. Chris Mole became Member of Parliament for Ipswich on 22 November 2001 and was re-elected in the General Election held in May 2005.

Chris was appointed in October 2008 to the position of Assistant Government Whip, having previously served as Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Local Government Minister John Healey MP.

Chris has previously been a member of the highly influential Science and Technology Select Committee.

He was Deputy Chair of EEDA, the regional development agency for the East of England, from 1998 and was Leader of Suffolk County Council, named Council of the Year 2001, until his election as Member of Parliament. Chris was first elected to Suffolk County Council in 1985 and represented central Ipswich for 18 years.

FIDIC 2009 London conference will highlight and raise awareness of the critical contribution that consultants and engineers can make in addressing today’s challenges.  Working in close partnership with governments, funding institutions, developers and development agencies, FIDIC 2009 London conference will be the place for leading and shaping debate, and for working together to promote effective, long-term sustainable solutions to the world’s key infrastructure and development challenges.
