HRH The Princess Royal will officially open the ACE FIDIC 2009 London conference
Issued: 09 September 2009

HRH The Princess Royal will officially open the ACE FIDIC 2009 London conference on Monday 14 September.

The ACE FIDIC 2009 conference, ‘Sustainable Solutions to Global Challenges’, will focus on the global effort to adapt to and mitigate against climate change.  The world’s engineers and consultants play a critical role in tackling climate change through refurbishing and delivering the new infrastructure and buildings that will enable the move to a low carbon industry and economy.

Nelson Ogunshakin, ACE Chief Executive, said: “As the UK member of FIDIC, ACE is delighted and proud to be hosting such a prestigious event.  It is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the best of our industry to the world.  Engineers must take the lead in the drive towards sustainable development, and FIDIC 2009 conference will be an unrivalled opportunity to set the global agenda.”

The conference will also provide a platform for FIDIC to launch its highly anticipated, first ever State of the World 2009 Report which willseek to set out the challenges facing the world and the role of consulting engineers in addressing these challenges.

Nelson Ogunshakin added: “In an increasingly global society, the solutions to the major infrastructure and development challenges we face must be widely accepted and, above all, sustainable.  As the need for developing towns and cities increases, and with the emerging economies still expanding - albeit more slowly in the current recession - the need for workable, sustainable solutions becomes ever more critical.

“ACE FIDIC 2009 London will discuss those solutions and come up with a series of concrete actions to be implemented after the event.”

The conference has attracted 500 Chief Executives and this includes key industry leaders.  As well as acting as a platform for debate, the conference will also be an opportunity for those in the industry to network and share expertise.
