The Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) welcomes the appointment of Paul Morrell as the chief construction adviser. ACE has long argued that the engineering and construction sector needs a strong voice in government.
Paul Morrell will bring the relevant experience and knowledge required of the role. Paul is well known in the industry having been a senior partner at Davis Langdon, deputy chairman of CABE, president of the British Council of Offices and a regular columnist on Building Design magazine. He was awarded the OBE in the New Year Honours List 2009.
Nelson Ogunshakin, ACE chief executive, said: “ACE believes that this is a very positive development. It is excellent that someone of Paul’s calibre has been appointed. In order to make sure his skills are maximised, it is vital that the chief construction adviser is given sufficient authority and resources to do the job. Strategic leadership will not be enough – the appointee must be in a position to deliver real, positive outcomes. They must have an unconstrained reporting line at the highest level in order to be an effective advocate for industry stakeholders.”
Paul Morrell will begin work with immediate effect. He will take charge of the Innovation & Growth Review, which was set up in September by Keith Clarke, the chairman of the Construction Industry Council (CIC), at Lord Mandelson's invitation.
Nelson Ogunshakin added: “ACE and its members look forward to working with Paul Morrell to deliver the appropriate change required to ensure that the construction industry contributes to the UK and global agenda of creating a low carbon economy.”
Paul will be employed by the CIC and seconded to the Department of Business, Innovation & Skills and the Office of Government Commerce for the duration of his contract.
