The Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) has welcomed plans for national skills academies for the rail, green building, logistics, composites and biotechnology sectors.
ACE also welcomes investment in the academy for power. The energy sector is facing significant challenges as it uses new technologies to develop a cleaner generation of energy generators.
Nelson Ogunshakin, chief executive of ACE, said: “These sectors are crucial to the long term future of Britain. Rail investment will support diverse economic growth, and there is a growing global market for green building solutions. If the UK is to benefit, industry needs the skills to capitalise.”
ACE’s sector interest groups also commented on the announcement.
Richard Seeley, chair of ACE’s Rail Sector Interest Group, said: “This is a positive announcement. With new developments in conventional, light and high speed rail on the horizon, we need to ensure that standards of training and development of our industry’s workforce are constantly refreshed and improved to help deliver these initiatives safely and efficiently. I hope that the National Skills Academy for Rail Engineering will make a significant contribution to this.”
Prem Mahi, chair of ACE’s Energy Sector Interest Group, commented: “Investment in energy underpins our economic and environmental ambitions. The UK can be a world leader, and investment in the skills of our energy industry workforce has the potential to boost the UK’s competitiveness significantly.”
