80 jobs created by next phase of HS2

The next phase of the High Speed 2 (HS2) rail project has created 80 jobs.

HS2 Ltd, which is overseeing the scheme, has appointed CH2M Hill, the parent company of UK consultancy Halcrow, as its development partner on the London to West Midlands line.

This phase of the HS2 rollout will involve engineering, design and environmental work.

According to HS2 Ltd, Halcrow was chosen on the basis of its experience with the HS1 and Crossrail developments.

The aim for the project managers will be to deposit a hybrid bill in Parliament before 2014 that will provide the powers to construct the HS2 line.

Alison Munro, chief executive of HS2 Ltd, said: "The appointment means that we will have world-class project managers and technical experts working alongside us to deliver the design, engineering and environmental work necessary for the hybrid bill."

The appointment will be confirmed after February 3rd, barring any appeals from other firms that tendered for the work.
