Major development of the Greenwich Peninsula in London will see the creation of some 4,000 construction jobs.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson announced today (January 19th) that 1,350 new homes will be built on the 190-acre site by the end of 2015, with work expected to begin later this year.
The work is being coordinated by the Homes and Communities Agency and its development partner Greenwich Peninsula Regeneration.
This will go some way towards the 10,000 homes, 600 student bedrooms and 3.5 million sq ft of commercial floor space that are planned for the peninsula.
The mayor said: "The transformation of Greenwich Peninsula is undoubtedly one of the most exciting development opportunities in London.
"This latest phase of regeneration will seal its future as a thriving, well-connected new district."
The Greenwich peninsula is already home the successful O2 Arena, which hosts concerts and sporting events.
There are also plans for a new road tunnel between Greenwich Peninsula and Silvertown in the Royal Docks, carrying 2,400 vehicles per hour.
