  'Energy centres' will power Games

Two large energy centres will provide power for the Olympic Park in Stratford, London.

The government hopes that Kings Yard, which will have a heating cooling function, and the Stratford City Energy Centre, which will produce power for retail and entertainment, will contribute towards the Olympic Delivery Authority's (ODA) target to reduce carbon emissions by 50 per cent.

The newly completed Kings Yard uses both a biomass and a natural gas powered Combined Cooling Heat and Power (CCHP) system, which offers 30 per cent more efficiency than traditional methods.

The games organisers said: "The innovative methods used in the Energy Centre will have environmental and economic benefits. The biomass technologies will create energy which will reduce carbon emissions."

The ODA recently announced that building work on the Olympic Park at Stratford, London has officially been completed.

The site will now be handed over to the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (known as LOCOG) who will transform the structures at the park into fully-functioning venues.
