A £350 million development project in the centre of Swindon has been approved.
The council has given the green light to Muse Developments and the Homes and Communities Agency's proposal for a residential block comprising of 45 assisted living apartments and an 850-space multi-storey car park in Union Square.
Development director at Muse, Doug Finlay, says that the £25 million first phase of the project will bring an economic boost to the town – a view echoed by the council.
Garry Perkins, deputy leader of Swindon Borough Council, said: "This is further proof that the regeneration of Swindon town centre is moving ahead and it's even more impressive and positive when the general economic background is considered."
When complete, the apartments will be operated by Westlea Housing Association and the car park will be run by Swindon Borough Council.
Forward Swindon is the body charged with overseeing development opportunities in the town, with the aim to boost the local economy and expand the cultural output.
