Planning consent has been granted for a £130 million biomass-fuelled energy plant at the port of Immingham in North East Lincolnshire.
The Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Reality Energy Centre is designed to generate 49MW - which is enough to provide power 90,000 homes - of green energy from sustainably-sourced wood pellets.
It will provide a job boost for the area with 200-250 positions expected to be created during the 30-month-long construction and commissioning period, and an estimated 35 permanent posts during its 25-year operational lifespan from 2015.
Project developer Real Ventures will oversee the build on a three-hectare site owned by Associated British Ports.
Ray Tucker, chief executive officer of Real Ventures, said he was "very pleased" with the council's decision.
"We are now proceeding to secure funding for the final design and construction work for the Immingham project," he added.
In Yorkshire, a £50 million biomass storage and handling facility is to be built in by Shepherd Construction on behalf of Drax.
