A housing repairs and maintenance contract worth up to £1.6 billion has been awarded to four preferred bidders.
Following an extensive procurement process, housing management firm Circle has chosen Kier, Morrison, United House and Apollo to cover six lots of work worth between £153 million and £350 million.
The lots cover both planned maintenance, which is regular and scheduled work such as replacing old bathrooms, and responsive repairs, where immediate and specific problems such as broken doors are dealt with.
Circle, which has some 200,000 residents on its books, will enter into initial five-year contracts with the preferred bidders subject to a full customer consultation with leaseholders and service charge payers.
"It has been really important to us to involve customers in this procurement from the start, and more than 400 customers have helped to shape the new service and select our contractors," explained Mark Rogers, group chief executive at Circle.
